Child Custody And Visitation

Attorney Heidi Milam can review your situation and discuss your legal options regarding custody and visitation. In many cases, this means a negotiated solution that involves shared legal custody (and shared responsibility for decisions relating to the child's education, religion and upbringing). Primary physical custody will be granted to one parent, while the other parent gets regular visitation rights. Other arrangements, however, such as joint custody are possible.

Our firm has been very successful in negotiating acceptable custody and visitation arrangements that enable our clients to enjoy rich and meaningful relationships with their children. Negotiated solutions can also reduce legal costs and emotional tensions.

Child Custody Litigation

Courts in Mississippi always decide custody and visitation questions in favor of what they see as the "best interests of the child." This does not mean that you are completely at the court's mercy. With clear arguments based on the facts and the law, it is possible to persuade a judge to rule in a certain way.

Heidi Milam is an experienced litigator who will work diligently to achieve your goals. If it is not possible to negotiate an acceptable custody and visitation arrangement, our firm will fight for your rights and interests in court.

Child Support

In Mississippi, child support obligations are determined according to statutory guidelines and the income of the noncustodial parent, adjusted for certain expenses.

We can address all issues relating to child support, including determination of the support level. When a significant change in income or circumstances occurs (such as a job layoff or promotion), we can go to court to obtain a modification in the support level or help you oppose any changes to an existing order.
